PROTECTING OUR OCEANS

We act as guardians of the South Ari Atoll, a thriving marine ecosystem home to whale sharks, manta rays, and sea turtles. Our partnership with Parley for the Oceans drives our commitment to eliminate single-use plastics, ensuring our turquoise waters remain pristine for the creatures that call them home.

By replacing plastic with reusable alternatives and championing eco-friendly practices, we invite you to join a movement that safeguards the fragile beauty of the Maldives for future generations.

CORAL REGENERATION

Immerse yourself in the restoration of our reefs through our dedicated coral conservation program. Guided by our resident marine biologists, you can play an active role in rehabilitating the reef by planting your own coral frame in our nursery.

This hands-on experience allows you to leave a living legacy beneath the waves. You will receive updates on your coral’s growth, forging a lasting connection to the underwater world you helped to protect and restore.

CERTIFIED PADI ECO CENTER

Discover the underwater wonders of the Maldives with a conscience. Our dive center is more than a gateway to adventure; it is a hub of marine education and conservation. From guided snorkeling excursions to educational presentations on marine biodiversity, every interaction is designed to deepen your understanding of the ocean.

Whether you are swimming with whale sharks or exploring the house reef, our team ensures that every encounter is respectful of the marine environment, promoting a sustainable coexistence with the ocean’s majestic inhabitants.

The Hydroponic Garden Project

Growing A Greener Future, One Island At A Time

What began as a wish to grow fresh, local produce has become a wider movement. Since 2022, Conrad Maldives has installed hydroponic gardens on nearby islands, boosting food security, reducing imports, and inspiring young islanders to adopt sustainable farming. Each garden features 1 – 2 systems, producing up to 180 leafy greens, along with fertigation units and greenhouse structures. Supported by Hilton Action Grants, resort funding, and guests’ contributions, the initiative includes hands-on training for long-term, local management. Four islands now harvest their own produce, with three more installations on the way – in our effort to cultivate a growing sustainability circle across the atoll.

Our own resort garden has supplied kitchens, bars, and the spa since 2014, yielding over 1,260 kg of lettuce and 540 kg of mint annually, alongside basil, banana and aloe vera, lowering our carbon footprint and ensuring exceptional freshness.

HARVESTING SUSTAINABILITY

We are dedicated to reducing our carbon footprint through innovation and mindful sourcing. Our current efforts focus on eliminating waste and celebrating fresh local produce:

  • Replacing plastic amenities with sustainable bamboo alternatives such as toothbrushes
  • Replacing plastic key cards with eco friendly wooden key cards
  • Hydroponics Garden: We harvest fresh lettuce, mint, basil, chili, and cucumber daily from our lush on island hydroponic greenhouse
  • Chef’s Garden: A seed to plate project nearing completion where guests can pick various vegetables, herbs, and fruits to cook together with our chefs
  • Banana Plantation Expansion Project: We plant new banana saplings monthly to reach our target of supplying 50% of the resort’s consumption

A community-led initiative

We believe in the power of connection. Our initiatives are designed to celebrate the rich heritage of the Maldives while supporting the livelihoods and wellbeing of our neighbors.

  • The newly completed Maldivian Village on Rangali Island provides guests with a truly local experience where local communities participate and perform traditional arts
  • Weekly Maldivian Theme Night: We host a weekly buffet where women from nearby islands visit the resort to create authentic Maldivian food for our guests
  • ADh Atoll Hospital Mahibadhoo: As part of our community outreach program our team members frequently visit this local hospital to assist their team by carrying out maintenance and painting work
